The Interview – Neither Masterpiece Nor a Terrible Film

The Movie: The movie revolves around two guys Dave Skylark (James Franco) and Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen). Skylark is the host of “Skylark Tonight”, a talk show and Rapaport is the show’s producer. The show is full of humor as it finds out the different funny aspects of others’ life. But what happens after 1,000 episodes of foolish celebrity coverage, he figures out that he wants to be taken seriously. In the effort to be seriously famous he sets up an exclusive interview with the dictator and a supreme leader of North Korea as Skylark finds out that he is a very big fan of his show. This gives him the opportunity to transform his image by associating himself with the real life heroes. But the twist in the story shows up when CIA finds out about this interview and they ask Skylark and Rapaport to assassinate the dictator, Kim Jong-un.


The Release and Response – Neither Masterpiece Nor Terrible

The film was set to release in October but after the harsh reactions from North Korea film’s release was delayed till Christmas as Sony is making minor digital alterations in the film. But after it’s release everybody realized that it had nothing in to create such a drama for its release. The Film got average response as it was nowhere in the headlines. You can call it an average film.

They say, “Numbers matter the most”

Well, with the budget of almost $40 million according to Box Office Mojo the film just earned $1.8 million in its opening weekend and the total gross was $6 million. But to everyone’s surprise the film earned $15 million in online revenues thus proving that the film did have legs.
